Mitzi Vaughn Joins Karr Tuttle Campbell Expanding Firm’s Cannabis Law Practice

Karr Tuttle Campbell (‘KTC’) is pleased to announce the expansion of its Cannabis Law practice with the addition of Mitzi Vaughn, a nationally recognized cannabis lawyer.

Mitzi joins KTC after serving as Chief Legal Officer in a Canadian hemp and cannabis start-up company. She had been exclusively practicing in the cannabis space since mid-2013, before the first Washington adult-use cannabis regulations were implemented.  “It is wonderful to be a part of a team with such depth of expertise,” said Vaughn. “I’m thrilled to join KTC’s broad pool of talent and continue serving such a rapid-growth industry.”

Mitzi’s experience extends far beyond the Pacific Northwest. She was a founding board member of the International Cannabis Bar Association and is currently an officer on its Advisory Board. She also is an officer and board member for the Drug Reform Coordination Network & the DRCNet Foundation; both organizations influence global drug policy reform at the United Nations. In Washington, Mitzi serves as General Counsel to The Cannabis Alliance.

Mitzi represents clients in cannabis regulatory compliance, corporate transactions and governance, and intellectual property matters. She has represented a variety of cannabis industry leaders including nutrient manufacturers, cultivators, processors, retailers, real estate developers, investors, consultants, and software companies. Mitzi was also instrumental in legislative negotiations that resulted in the passage of the statute reforming compliance and enforcement provisions for cannabis licensees. Mitzi continues to be active in the cannabis legislative and rulemaking process.

“Our firm thrives on representing innovators in Washington State. Mitzi is a pioneer in this space and has been an active partner with legislators and regulators in crafting cannabis laws and regulations. She’s a cannabis legal expert who not only understands the evolving intricacies of cannabis laws, but she also helps drive their progress,” said Dino Vasquez, Managing Partner of KTC.

Mitzi is actively involved with international and U.S. drug policy reform organizations. She served as General Counsel to the Coalition for Cannabis Standards and Ethics (WA) and now for its successor The Cannabis Alliance (WA). She is a long-time member of the National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) and is on the Advisory Council of Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP).

Mitzi received a J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law, studied international human rights at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary, and received a B.A. from the University of Texas at San Antonio in History.
