James S. Irby is a shareholder in Karr Tuttle Campbell’s Business and Finance Department. He was admitted to the bar in 1979 and has practiced at the firm since 1985.
Mr. Irby’s primary responsibilities include advising clients on a wide variety of real estate, real estate related, finance and other business transactions. He has significant expertise in all aspects of the acquisition, financing, development, leasing and disposition of various real estate and real estate related assets including such assets as office buildings, shopping malls, industrial facilities, multi-family residential properties, mixed-use properties, hotels, vacant land and various entities holding ownership interest in the foregoing. Mr. Irby also has substantial experience in commercial lending, secured financings, loan workouts and various other corporate and municipal finance transactions, including tax exempt bond financing and development of affordable housing through the use of federal tax credits.
In addition to dealing with real estate and commercial lending matters, Mr. Irby’s responsibilities also include the formation and organization of various entities, including corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies and the negotiation of various joint venture relationships in connection with the formation, organization and financing of those entities.
Mr. Irby is a graduate of University of Colorado (B.S. 1975) and University of Puget Sound (J.D. 1979, Cum Laude, Editor, University of Puget Sound Law Review). Mr. Irby has completed a Certificate Program in Commercial Real Estate from the University of Washington, and he writes and lectures frequently on issues of interest to lenders and borrowers. Prior to joining the firm in 1985, Mr. Irby served as law clerk to the then chief judge of the Washington Court of Appeals, Division II and he practiced law in Tacoma and Olympia, Washington.
